1.1 Create a New Project

To create a new localization project (*.prj) you will have to specify at least a source file or program module for translation, the source and desired target language and also the name for the project. Just follow the steps described below:

  1. In the File menu, click on New Project... to call up the New project dialog:

  2. Select a project name and path by clicking on the browse button . A dialog to specify the path to your new project will be opened.
You can also insert the complete path and project name (including the file extension *.prj) directly into the Project text field via the keyboard.
    For example:
    C:\test\localization_notepad_en_ge.prj

OPTIONAL STEP: If the version control for project managers is enabled, the Project version text field is activated.
Now you can insert a corresponding version information text for your localization project.

For a better handling of your localization project we recommend inserting a new Project version string each time you make a Reload of your localization project or a new version of your translated software is released.

    For example:
    "Notepad English(US) to German(Ge) Version 1.0"

  3. Please select the Source Language with the combo box:

NOTE: The available national languages in the combo box depend form your operating system.
See all supported languages and how to add additional languages at the Microsoft™ Knowledge Base.
It is important to select a Display font which also supports all characters from the Source Language.
Therefore please click on the browse button on the right side of the default system language (here "MS Sans Serif, 10 Italic").
A system Font dialog will be opened. Please select an installed font type and also the Script to be used with this font.

  4. Please also select the desired Target Language for your localization project

NOTE: The available national languages in the combo box depend form your operating system.
See all supported languages and how to add additional languages at the Microsoft™ Knowledge Base.
It is important to select a Display font which also supports all characters from the Target Language.
Therefore please click on the browse button on the right side of the default system language (here "MS Sans Serif, 10 Italic").
A system Font dialog will be opened. Please select an installed font type and also the Script to be used with this font.

A different Font style (e.g. Bold, Italic) or Color on the Font dialog will help to get a better overview for the translator.

  5. Click on a tab control to select the files which shall be added to the project:

    Binary
(*.EXE, *.DLL, *.OCX, *.DRV, *.CPL - 16bit and 32bit files compiled with a Microsoft™ or Watcom™ compiler)
    Resources
(*.RESX, *.RESOURCE - Microsoft™.NET resource files)
    KeyPair
(e.g. *.INI, *.TXT, ... - Text files with a unique identifier) and JAVA resource files (*.java, *.properties)
    CHM
(*.CHM - Compiled HTML help files)
    HTML
(*.HTM, *.HTML - Plain Hypertext Markup Language files)
    XML
(*.XML - Extensible Markup Language files) -
This file type is only supported in the "Visual Localize (PREMIUM) Edition" or you have purchased an additional XML-Engine

    Database
(Microsoft™ Databases - MS Access or MS SQL Server)
The support of Microsoft™ Databases ( MS Access or MS SQL Server) is only available in the "Visual Localize (PREMIUM) Edition" or you have purchased an additional MS Database-Engine

    Import
(To import already translated project files (*.prj), dictionaries (*.dic) or pairs of application files before starting translation)

  6. Add the desired source file to your project by clicking on the small browse button from the Project files table.
A common 'file open' dialog will appear. Please select all source files from your application, which contain languages dependent phrases and need to be localized. More than one file can be selected at the same time by using the SHIFT and / or CRTL keys from your keyboard.
If you have different source files or you want to add additional files, please repeat step 5+6 until all source files are added to the localization project.

NOTE: You can delete an entry by selecting the desired file and then clicking on the delete button on the right side above the list field.

  7. OPTIONAL STEP: Click on the button Support DLLs to add necessary third party libraries (DLLs) to your localization project. A Support Files dialog will be opened on which you can add these third party libraries. These Support DLLs are not for being translated but they are necessary to create the translated target files in case that some of your source files which have to be translated use information from third party libraries like e.g. Syncfusion™.

To find out if you will need Support DLLs we recommend to create target files before starting the translation process using the project file:
Just create the target files on another computer. In case that some Support DLLs are missing, the Microsoft .NET Framework will display an error message during the creation of the target files. Now you can add these missing Support DLLs to your localization project, via the menu item Edit Project... from the menu Edit. Here you will also find the button Support DLLs.

  8. Confirm all your settings by clicking on OK button. The dialog closes, and Visual Localize starts to create the localization project (*.prj).
NOTE: This process may last some time depending on the amount of files for translation to be added to your localization project.
